Pattern: Swoon by Camille Roskelley
Fabrics: Nest by Lella Boutique
Time to sew: about 2 hours
Difficulty rating: ★★★
I have wanted to make a Swoon quilt forever. I keep looking (and drooling) at other people’s quilts and think “some day”. But, I struggle with what fabric to use for a certain pattern. Somehow the creative gene didn’t stick with me. Oh, I can follow a pattern and copy someone else’s color scheme, but to look at a pattern and different fabrics and know that this color will go well with that color, it’s beyond me. And, Swoon has you choose two fabrics per block. So, I keep looking at ones that show up on Instagram and think later. About 2-3 times a month I look at the pattern and wonder is this the day I try this? And keep putting it back. Well…. this week I got my fat quarter bundle of Nest and today is the day! I decided that I just had to jump in, pick some colors and go for it. And I am in LOVE!!! I am so excited, I absolutely love the block I sewed today and can’t wait to do another one. Each block is about 24″ square so it will make a large quilt. It took me about 2 hours to cut my two fabrics and sew the block together. I kept having to refer to my design and remember which fabric is #1 and which is #2. I think it will be easier next time, but I think I will stick with sewing one block at a time. I worried about all the seams, there’s a lot of them, but I took it slow and think it turned about just fine. Here’s my other color choices, what do you think?
Now I just need more time to make more blocks!
