Pattern: Card Trick tutorial by Jenny Doan of Missouri Star Quilt Company
Fabrics: Galaxy by Jinny Beyer for RJR Fabrics
Difficulty rating: ★★★

When I saw Jenny’s tutorial on the Card Trick block I knew I had to make one. I am fascinated by the “illusions” that you will see in some quilt patterns, and this is one of those that I keep admiring. But, I kept reading horror stories about “Y” seams, and the difficulty with them so I just kept admiring and thinking “some day”. But, Jenny makes all things so easy to do! I don’t know how long I’ve had this material but I wanted something that was jewel tones and would show up well with the white. I have about half of the blocks done and excited to see this get finished. The pattern is not hard, I’ve been assembly-line making the parts and pieces of the squares. The hardest thing for me was making sure I’m using an equal number of each color. I was so excited to get some squares made I just grabbed the ones I liked, and realized that I was leaving some out. So now I am carefully counting and using every color as I finish. You can see the stack of material, the blocks with two white triangles added and the pile waiting for their white sides. (ignore the mess in the back!)
