Pattern: Chandelier by Vanessa Goertzen of Lella Boutique (in her Charm School Book)
Fabrics: Assorted from my stash
Time to sew: Each block is only about 1/2 hour
Difficulty rating: ★★★ – I’m giving it 3 stars since it’s finished on point and that took me a little longer, but it’s really very easy
Ever since I saw this pattern I have wanted to make it, and really wanted to do it in the jewel colors. I started using a charm pack I had, but ended up removing some of the paler blocks since I didn’t think they were strong enough. So, I ended up using some fabric from my stash and picked out the blocks that I liked from the charm pack. I still wanted some little softer blocks so kept some that had more of a pattern in them to soften it a bit.
Once I got all the blocks made I had to decide how I wanted to do the layout. I first just mixed up the colors.
Nope, wasn’t sure I liked that version. So then I tried putting the family colors together.
I like that better, but still not quite what I wanted. I then realized that I had enough for 1 column of green, 2 yellows, 2 blues, 2 pink/purples, and almost 2 reds. I think I’ve got it!
Yes! I added a nice wide border and am claiming victory. I kind of feel like I’m cheating calling this my first 2019 finish since I’ve been working on it for a couple weeks, but super happy with how it’s turned out and am doing the happy dance.
