I love Jenny’s tutorials! She comes out with a new one every Friday and I always watch them and dream about making one of her quilts. Yesterday the Bordered Nine-Patch tutorial came out and I HAD TO try it immediately! Never mind the list of “to-do”s” I had, I dropped everything and tried a block. And then another, and another and pretty soon this is what I had Yup, 11 blocks all pretty sitting there waiting for the rest of them to be made. So, this morning I got up and never mind I have to be somewhere by 10am for the entire weekend, what did I do? Did I get packed and ready? NOPE! I cut out the rest of the blocks. What you see there is the rest of my 36 blocks all ready for me to come home Sunday night and sew. I did a couple things differently than what Jenny shows; instead of cutting out all the 2 1/2 inch squares and sewing them together, I cut the 6 1/2 inch (the bottom two stacks) and then a 10″ strip that I sewed a 10″ white strip to. Then I will cut that down to (4) 2 1/2 squares. (that’s the top strip, it’s wrong side up of the print already sewn to the white strip. You see just under that the 5th 2 1/2 print square that I need. I will then make my 9-patch. I have found it’s easier for me to sew strip and cut them down than to cut a bunch of smaller pieces and sew them together. I haven’t had any problem doing it this way and I seems faster. Maybe it’s not, but it seems like it is 🙂
This block is so fast and easy you could finish this whole top in one day. Now if only I didn’t have to go do other stuff for the rest of this weekend. I am going to try to sneak in some sewing when I get back on Sunday, I really want to see how this looks finished.
